Open Adventure Map board
By Dave Morrow (13/09/2007)
Summary: Fills the gap in the market- affordable, no fuss, no faff, map board.
Price: £8
Value:10/10
Performance:10/10
  • £9 on the web
  • £8 at Open Adventure events
  • A4 size and can be cut down your specifications
  • Simplicity of design
  • Stable
  • Minimum components
  • Attaches to any mountain bike
  • Easy access to map.
  • When you attend races you will see a vast number of styles of map boards some brought but mostly made. My first one was made out of card board; it worked for a few races but then it gave up the ghost. I progresses on to a Perspex bent contraption which promptly broke, I now have an all singing all dancing one three times (and then some) price of this one, oh- the price we pay to swivel a map.

Quick description; A4 corrugated plastic board, attached by zip ties to the handle bars of your MTB. Many of us have cut our teeth on this type of map board-ones that we have had to make ourselves. Now we don't have too; James at Open Adventure has made one for us- at a price which will not burn a hole in the pocket.

This map board is most defiantly targeted at the novice or intermediate competitor. I also think that these map boards will find themselves in the more experience teams transition boxes; as a back up. Also the check navigator could have one without paying £30 plus for the more advanced map boards on the market.
