The North Face Team 2007
As one of the top teams in the UK, 2007 promises to be an exciting year for The North Face Team. Off the back of successes on the world stage in 2006 - notably their 10th place finish at the ARWC 2007 in Sweden - the team are looking to “Go Balls Deep” over the coming season, starting crucially with the ARWC in Scotland in May, and followed by a full events calendar through the rest of the summer. Their primary goal is to be a team to be reckoned with, and earn their rightful place among the top teams in the world.
Strengths and Focus
Each team member is a specialist in their own right in either kayaking, mountain biking, navigation and climbing, giving the team a very well balanced skill level. Collectively the team’s strengths are their biking, and their navigation with Anthony at the helm once again. Over the past months however, they have been working on improving their trekking and paddling skills, as well as preparing themselves physically and mentally for what will be the toughest challenge yet… the ARWC 2007.

TEAM MEMBERS
Anthony (31) hails from Hertford. As a Key Account Manager for The North Face, he is the captain and driving force behind this successful team.
With a childhood start in Orienteering, he has gradually progressed through the ranks of adventure thrill-seeker to competitive racer over the last 6 years. When he can tear himself away from adventure racing, he gets his thrills boarding or skiing in the Alps.
As the highly skilled chief navigator, Anthony’s strengths also lie in strategy and his ability to get the team working effectively and efficiently. He is a natural leader who brings vital soft skills to a team of solo performers. Fear is his friend and no challenge is too tough. This year he hopes to lead his team to even greater glory.
Alli (33) works as an Outdoor Educator in Devon. Although her lifestyle is firmly based on the outdoors, she is a relative newcomer to AR. Contrary to the norm, it was a knee operation in 2002 that got Alli thinking about getting fit. There started her rapid rise in her sporting career - primarily in mountain biking before being snapped up by her current team in 2006.
Alli’s strengths are biking, navigation and her experience and passion for the outdoors. That combined with her love of a challenge, her competitive spirit and her desire to push herself to her limits has made her a valuable member of the team.
Alli gets her inspiration from world record holder Ellen MacArthur whose philosophy she shares… “When it’s a race, you just can’t stop. It would be easy to say chill out when you’re tired, but you never lose the goal of the finish line. That’s what you set out to do and that’s what you stick to.”
Mark (31) is a skilled plasterer by trade. He is also a father of four and husband to Lisa. He lives in Leeds with his family, who are themselves famous in the UK AR circuit for their enthusiastic and poetic support for their dad on the AR forums.
Mark’s sporting career started in mountain biking and fell running at a national level over the last 10 years, as well as racing at expert level under various sponsorship deals.
Known as Cranny by his AR friends, he has been active in the circuit for 4 years, racing for a wide variety of UK teams. As the team’s workhorse, his strengths are biking, running and towing his teammates. Mark owes his success and impressive results to his love of a challenge, the outdoors and most importantly the incredible support and encouragement he gets from his family.
Cas (32) is based in London. A true sportsman at heart, he funds his passion by contracting for a Private Equity company in Central London.
Originally from South Africa, sport has always been a huge part of his life, starting with kayaking and University squash, at which he excelled to a world ranking. He has lived in the UK for 10 years and took up adventure racing 4 years ago, finding it to be the most exciting and challenging way to combine his passions for multisport and the wild outdoors.
Cas is a classic all-rounder, but for the team his bonus value lies in his skill as a paddler, as well as his uncompromising discipline and determination to succeed to the best of his (and the team’s) ability. He enjoys the team environment and loves a challenge, as well as the unique life experiences AR can provide.
